PRIVACY
MATTERS.

This website is not a commercial enterprise; it is an artwork. It is an extension of a personal reflection - a digital space created to exist outside the established norms of data extraction and surveillance capitalism. In a digital landscape where every click, view, and interaction is systematically recorded and monetised, this project stands as a deliberate act of resistance.

Our Privacy Policy is minimalist because our data collection is minimalist. We refuse to treat our visitors as data points. We believe that true self-reflection and genuine engagement require privacy.

Your interaction with this artwork is yours alone. We ensure that your visit remains untracked, de-commercialised, and fundamentally private. The only information we seek is your undivided attention to the work itself.

Privacy Policy
in black & white
and other colours.

This Privacy Policy governs the manner in which thereforeiam.me (hereinafter referred to as “Work") operates. We recognise the profound issues inherent in surveillance capitalism and the mass collection of personal data. As a work of digital art, our mission is to offer a space for self-reflection and dialogue, not data extraction. We are fundamentally committed to protecting the privacy of our visitors and do not engage in the collection or commercialisation of personal information.

Information We DO NOT Collect

We explicitly affirm that we do not collect, store, or process any information that directly identifies you or could be used to identify you (hereinafter referred to as "Personal Data"), including:

  • Names

  • Email addresses

  • Physical addresses

  • Phone numbers

  • Specific IP addresses (beyond anonymised aggregate logging)

  • User account credentials

  • Behavioural tracking data across other sites

Information that we seek.

Information We Do Collect (Non-Personal, Anonymised Data)

We collect the absolute bare minimum of non-personal, anonymised data solely for the purpose of essential website functionality, security, and internal artistic analysis. This data is collected on an aggregate, non-identifiable basis:

Data Type

Unique Visitor Count

Purpose for Collection

To understand the general scale of the audience interacting with the artwork.

Date & Time of Visit

Pages Viewed

For basic traffic logging and monitoring performance over time.

Average Time Spent

To gauge which aspects of the artwork are receiving engagement.

Device Usage

To measure general audience attention to the work.

To ensure the artwork renders correctly across different devices and platforms.

This information is considered non-personal and is never linked back to an individual visitor.

What if a visitor shares personal information?

The only instance in which we may receive Personal Data is if a visitor voluntarily decides to communicate with us (or the artist) directly through a contact form. In such cases,

  • What we collect: Any data you choose to provide (e.g., your name, email address, the content of your message).

  • How we use it: Strictly to respond to your inquiry or feedback regarding the artwork.

  • Retention: This correspondence data is retained only as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose of your communication or for artistic archival purposes, after which it is securely deleted.

Step 1: Anonymise the information.

Step 2: Adhere to the purpose for collecting the information.

The limited, anonymised data we collect is used strictly for internal purposes:

  • To maintain and secure the Work.

  • To analyse the reception and technical performance of the Work.

  • To guide the artist’s self-reflection on the Work's reach and impact.

Step 3: We just chill.

The 'most' important question: DO WE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH ANY OTHER PERSON, INCLUDING ANY THIRD PARTIES?

The answer is: NO.

We do not share any of the collected data with any third parties, commercial entities, advertisers, or analytics providers.

Our commitment to resisting surveillance capitalism means your interaction with this artwork is not monetised or tracked by external parties.

What do we do with the information we have?

However...

We utilise third-party hosting services to create the Work and make it accessible globally. While we have selected providers known for their security and compliance, and have explicitly opted out of all non-essential and marketing-related features, these providers may, as part of their standard service package, utilise certain technical cookies or logging methods over which we have limited control.

These unsolicited mechanisms may be used by the hosting provider for purposes such as:

  • Essential Service Functionality: Maintaining server stability and basic network operations.

  • Security and DDoS Protection: Monitoring traffic patterns to protect the service infrastructure.

We want to be perfectly clear: We do not ask for, receive, process, or utilise the data collected by these potential third-party hosting mechanisms. They are a function of the necessary infrastructure, and not our artistic intent. We encourage visitors to review the privacy policy of our hosting provider ‘Wix’ for details on their own data practices.

Last Update: 15.08.2025

While the artist is based in India, the Work has been created to cater to a global audience. Our policy of collecting minimal to no personal data inherently complies with the core principles of major international privacy regulations, including the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as we do not process the data that these laws primarily regulate.

The usual.

We reserve the right to update this policy as necessary, particularly if the functionality or technical implementation of the Work changes. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the bottom of the page. We encourage visitors to periodically review this page for the latest information on our privacy practices.

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or our minimal data practices, please submit here.

What you need to keep in mind.
